NAVAL OBSERVERS: EYEWITNESSES TO HISTORY

Curator: Matthew Sheldon, Head of Curatorial Department

From personal letters and diaries to official records, our archive contains many compelling accounts kept by naval personnel.  Discover how these give us a unique insight into naval events as well chronicling the impact of social and technological changes during the last 400 years of naval history.

Talk lasts 45 minutes and is followed by afternoon tea.

Join our curators for our popular behind the scenes tour of the Museum buildings, archives and collection stores.

NAVAL ANCESTORS: WHO DO YOU THINK THERE WERE?

A half-day workshop for family historians to discover the different career paths of their naval ancestors and how to interpret the service certificate. NAVAL VOICES: ORAL HISTORY

Curator: Victoria Ingles, Curator of Oral History

Hear about the highs and lows of naval life as told by those who lived it.  From First World War veterans to serving personnel and their families our collection of recordings gives a fascinating and often humorous insight into how life in the Navy has changed during the twentieth century from the dramatic experience of wartime to the everyday experience of living on board ship.

Talk lasts 45 minutes and is followed by afternoon tea.
